New Feature - API

6/9/2020 By Todd Mueller

I am excited to announce we finished version 1.0 of the Olive API and it is in production. We’re excited about this new feature because Olive has the ability to integrate into EMR’s (EPIC, Cerner, AllScripts, OpenMRS, and more) and other health care related systems. Having an API helps close the loop on the needs of providers & case managers working together without having to spend countless hours manually updating health records. This results in less work for everyone involved, and more importantly, better patient care.

All the data that’s captured in Olive is accessible from the API in JSON/HL7 format. This data includes clients, referrals, cases, care plans, outcomes, goals, dynamic form data, tuberculosis, and much, much more. There is no limit of what can be done with the data on a reporting/integration level.

Security is critical to Olive, and that is why we are using the industry-standard OAuth 2.0 that all major, secure EMRs use today. In addition to OAuth 2.0, we also have the ability to lock down API requests to a specified IP range. Olive takes advantage of Microsoft’s Azure WAF(Web Application Firewall) so nefarious users and system attacks will be thwarted. The scale and power of WAF combined with Azure Front Door is a highly secure, robust way to secure web applications and APIs.

In the next few weeks, I will write about how we integrate Olive into OpenMRS, an open-source medical record system used worldwide. This will give you an idea of how the integration works and that will hopefully give you some ideas on what can be done with Olive, and your EMR/health care system.

By having a modern, secure API, Olive continues to focus on doing what it does best, case management. Stay tuned for more exciting posts on how Olive can be leveraged to help your case managers do what they do best, care for their people.
